External Employment MIS

The number of labour migrants from Ugandan has increased over a period of time making labour migration from Uganda an important agenda for the Government of Uganda (GoU).

The External Employment Unit (EEU) under the Department of Employment Services, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) is entrusted to lead with the enforcement of the rules and regulations governing the recruitment of Ugandan migrant workers abroad.

The EEU coordinates stakeholders such as Licensed labour export companies, Joint Intelligence committee, Uganda Missions abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migrant workers and Entebbe International Airport to oversee that this process is executed smoothly.

For better regulation of labour migration in Uganda, the Ministry has embarked on strengthening the collection, management and analysis of labour migration data, including information on labour demand and supply.

This has necessitated the development and implementation of an External Employment Management Information System (EEMIS).

The EEMIS is a component of a broader Labour Management Information System (LMIS) and a Labour Market Information and Analysis Systems (LMIAS) currently being developed by the MGLSD.
