Uganda Commemorates International Youth Day, 12th August 2026 at Parliament under the theme
“Empowering Young People for Inclusive Wealth Creation and Sustainable Development”.
In our struggle to sanitize governance, leadership and ensure the rule of law
we have ensured continued the participation of young people at all levels of
society leadership. At Local Governance level, the 1997 Local Government
Act provides for youth councilors and secretaries for youth while the
Constitution of the Republic of Uganda 1995 as amended, under Article 78
provides for youth representation in Parliament. You will also recall that by
1993, we had already taken a strategic and bold decision through the National
Youth Council Statute 1993 as amended to establish Youth Councils to
provide a voice for the young people and enable them to participate in
activities that benefit them and the country at large.
