The Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Hon. Mwesigwa Rukutana has issued a press statement on the social economic effects of the global Corona virus (COVID19) pandemic in Uganda. The Minister offered guidelines and considerations on labour related matters as the country looks forward to mitigating COVID19 effects.
The key highlights from the statement include:-
☑️Employers should retain employees who are on monthly pay
☑️ Engagement of employees who are still under casual terms may be reviewed and some of them can be advised to stay home
☑️ Employees should be encouraged to take pending leave or leave without pay upon agreement with employers
☑️ Labour externalization is henceforth suspended for 32 days. Countries of focus are UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Somalia, Barhain, Afghanistan and Iraq
☑️ Returning labour migrants from high risk countries shall be subjected to the mandatory 14 Day quarantine
